A story of ambition and betrayed hope…
A tale about an amateur cartoonist refusing the tempting offer of his soon-to-be rich and famous colleague so he could try on his own…
The creation of the awkwardly-drawn costumed crime fighter almost a decade before its time that was taken by no publisher but seen by many…
… including a fame-hungry young unknown who soon became a celebrity and wealthy in spite of sharing almost amateurish drawing awkwardness with the starry-eyed cartoonist whose character didn’t have an appeal for anybody in an era we remember now as The Golden Age of Comics.
The night-time operating drawn vigilante striking fear in the hearts of criminals still exists today in comics, animation, feature films and commercials. He had many a midwife – but only one originator.
And apparently it is NOT the man celebrated as the creator of the costumed masked
vigilante appearing as a giant flying mouse.
The soon to be rich and famous cartoonist friend of our struggling artist was Al Capp, creator of LI’L ABNER. The fame-hungry young [then] unknown was Bob Kane, credited as the one who created Batman in 1939.
An amateur cartoonist who refused the tempting offer of his more talented friend Al Capp to join him as a studio partner, Frank Foster II, died in 1995, embittered, wronged and robbed of the credit for creating the costumed masked character fighting crime called Bat-Man (or alternatively Night-Wing) in 1932.
The urban legend..?
The disturbing truth..?
YOU DECIDE.
The pamphlet THE BATTLE OF BAT-MEN is on sale, written just for you, the comics fans and connoisseurs, coinciding with the hero’s 75th birthday!
Read it and think how history of the sequential storytelling medium was molded…
… or ruthlessly enforced.
75th Anniversary of The Dark Knight!

Who invented the character, Batman? This book looks at the history behind two different people who, perhaps accidentally, came up with the same idea around the same time. It does make for some interesting reading.
I've cut the author down by one star because nowhere in the book does he mention that there was an earlier author who might have influenced both of the "comic character creators" (can I call them CCC's?) with the movie, "The Bat" in which a sort-of-similarly-dressed character, known as "The Bat" was a bad guy.The Bat (1926)
